Steam Sales Around the Corner
Written by Sam Hinton
July has almost come and gone, and with it came and went the Steam Summer Sale. With a variety of popular games going on sale each year, it gives many of us an opportunity to look at our Wishlists and see the prices drop (I actually snagged all of the Witcher series myself), but where does it leave those of us who were unaware or don’t want to wait until November, when the Autumn Sale rolls around? Thankfully, Steam keeps a variety of sales going all year-round, so among games that—as of 7/28—are still on sale, there are a few upcoming sales to keep an eye on. These sales are Tower Defense Fest, Fighting Games Fest, and Rhythm Fest.
Steam has already done an announcement of their own via Twitter about Tower Defense Fest, mentioning sales and demos being available to the public from July 29th - August 5th. If you’re a fan of building, fighting, and, of course, defending, then you should definitely check out some of the many games they feature, including:
Cataclismo
Fight against creatures of the Mist in this early-access game. Put together epic fortresses in the Last City (which feels like LEGOs, according to many reviewers) and adapt to survive as you face against the hordes in either the free demo or the game itself, which is currently 20% off.
Orcs Must Die! 2
Defend your fortresses with a friend, playing as either a War Mage or Sorceress, and lay waste to—you guessed it—orcs in this sequel to the 2011 AIAS Strategy Game of the Year. Currently it has a killer deal of 80% off, so if you’re looking to massacre some orcs with a variety of traps and and weapons, here’s your game.
Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance TD
Building off of the original Kingdom Rush series and bringing you double, yes, DOUBLE the dragons, come up with exhilarating strategies against a variety of foes. With three different game modes and over fifty achievements to unlock, the fun is never ending (and 10% off!)
Plants vs. Zombies: GOTY Edition
This overwhelmingly popular fan-favorite makes the list solely for the nostalgia of defending your home against man-eating zombies using the variety of adorable, and deadly, plants at your disposal. It’s already a pretty cheap game, made cheaper with 10% off, and who doesn’t love coming back to an old game to kick some ass?
Later on in the month is the Fighting Games Fest, which while nothing has been released yet for it, we can expect a wide variety of classic arcade KO’s to be making an appearance for both discounts and knockouts. Here’s some that are on sale now if you can’t wait to get a punch or two in!
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R
Ever wanted to be the Stand wielder in the world of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure? Take your pick of over 50 different characters from all the arcs bringing ゴゴゴゴゴ into your hands. Now with 65% off, don’t miss out on a cult-classic anime series brought to the fighting game world!
Street Fighter 6
Speaking of cult favorites, Street Fighter 6, along with many of Capcom’s fighting games, are currently being advertised with major sales, allowing you to save up to 87% off. So, if you can’t wait until the event itself, take a look at all of the amazing fighter games under Capcom and see if any of them peak your interest.
Hopefully, one of these games or opportunities calls out to you, but if not, you can always keep an eye on your Wishlists and Steams weekly sales to see if that one game you missed is sporting a deal you just cannot miss. If you’re having trouble with catching these sales, there are a few tips and tricks that you can use to your advantage. Using Wishlist notifications can allow you to see when games you’ve loved but can’t just press purchase on are on sale. Publishers themselves are always putting their games on sales, especially in bundles, so watch and see what they’re up to (Thanks, Capcom!) Along with this, you can always support an indie game or two through itch.io or Steam and save a few bucks on a smaller but equally amazing game. And if you really need that one game to go on sale, there’s always the Autumn and Winter Sales.
